5,000 scouts coming from various cities of Türkiye and from seven countries attended the camp held from April 22 to 26, 2019, accompanied by a team of four employees of Kuveyt Türk.

About 100 scouts camped in their sleeping bags at the 57th Infantry Regiment Martyrs Memorial on the night of April 24 to 25.  At the break of the dawn, traditional henna was applied and soldier soup and local ‘pisi’ pancake were served to all other scouts. Then the scouts, most of whom are age 10 to 15, marched in a single file on the same path as the 57th Regiment had marched, and arrived at the historic Conkbayiri battlefield in about three hours.

Kuveyt Türk, the leading participation bank in Türkiye, was one of the official sponsors of the National Awareness Camp for the 57th Regiment of Çanakkale organized by the Turkish Scout Federation.

5,000 scouts from Türkiye and many other countries around the world gathered in Gelibolu (Gallipolli) peninsula to attend the National Awareness Camp for the 57th Regiment of Çanakkale organized by the Turkish Scout Federation to commemorate the 104th anniversary of the Çanakkale Land War.  Held for the 17th time this year, the National Awareness Camp  attracted scouts from Cyprus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia-Novi Pazar, Georgia, Egypt, Syria and Palestine in addition to Türkiye. Uttering the slogan “I am here for you, grandpa”, about 100 of these scouts travelled to Çanakkale and camped at the Kocadere Camping Area in Eceabat. A team of four employees of Kuveyt Türk, one of whom is a scout leader, attended the National Awareness Camp.

Energizing present

The scouts were briefed on the Çanakkale War, visited the Martyrs Memorial, and were trained on first aid, search-and-rescue, and how to fight addiction. The scouts celebrated the April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day and learned how to play tip-cat the way their ancestors had played. They attended the official ceremonies held at the Çanakkale Martyrs Memorial and the 57th Regiment Martyrs Memorial on April 24, Wednesday. Kuveyt Türk gave a Powerbank as a present to each of the 400 scout leaders in charge of the camp in order to let them keep in touch with the families of the scouts they watched over.

Soldier Meal and Henna

For the scouts attending the National Awareness Camp for the 57th Regiment of Çanakkale, the most exciting time was the night of April 24 to 25. About 100 of them camped in their sleeping bags overnight at the 57th Regiment Martyrs Memorial to represent their mates.  All the other scouts were waked up by an artillery fire before dawn. They performed the morning ritual of namaz, then traditional henna was applied and soldier soup and local pisi pancake was served to each of the 4,900 scouts. Then the scouts, most of whom are age 10 to 15, marched in a single file in the early hours of the morning on the same path as the 57th Regiment did.  They persevered at passing the rough terrain damaged by heavy rain and arrived at the historic Conkbayiri battlefield in about three hours. Marching on the same path as the 57th Regiment had marched gave the scouts a feeling of battle, so that they experienced some emotional moments. They followed a different route on the way back and arrived at the camp at noon in two hours. The National Awareness Camp for the 57th Regiment of Çanakkale ended in the morning of April 26, Friday after a ceremony.
